TEAS 7 Calculator Guide: Where It's Allowed & Section-by-Section Tips

• Four-function: +, −, ×, ÷
• Square root (√) and percentage (%) keys on most builds
• Memory keys: M+, M−, MR, MC
• No exponents (besides x²), trig, log, or graphing functions
• Floats in a draggable on-screen window — keep it parked near the answer pane

• Handheld calculators (scientific, graphing, four-function)
• Phones, smartwatches, fitness trackers
• Tablets, laptops, headphones (other than what the proctor provides)
• Scratch paper you brought — ATI gives you a digital whiteboard or paper sheet at the testing centre

• Don't reach for it on every item. Roughly 30–40% of TEAS 7 Math questions are faster done mentally (e.g. 3/4 of 80, simple unit conversions). Save the calculator for multi-step arithmetic.
• Type the full expression once. Re-entering partial sums is the #1 source of fat-finger errors. Use parentheses and the memory keys.
• Convert fractions to decimals deliberately. 1/8 = 0.125, 1/3 ≈ 0.333. Round only at the final step or you'll miss the closest option.
• Percentages: "15% of 240" = type 240 × 0.15. Don't trust the % key blindly — implementations differ.
• Word problems: read fully first, set up the equation on the whiteboard, then calculator. Calculator-first = mis-set equations.

• Dosage & dilution: the calculator's biggest win. Always confirm units (mg vs g, mL vs L) before you type.
• Dimensional analysis: write the conversion chain on the whiteboard, then run the multiplication in one go.
• Ratios & proportions (e.g. Punnett squares, solution strengths): cross-multiply on the whiteboard, divide on the calculator.
• Don't waste it on conceptual items. A&P (~32 of 50 Science questions) is mostly recall — no calculator needed.

• Forgetting order of operations — type (2+3)×4, not 2+3×4
• Rounding mid-calculation (rounds compound)
• Using the % key without checking how it behaves on the on-screen build
• Switching between fractions and decimals mid-problem — pick one
• Letting the calculator window cover the answer choices — drag it aside

The calculator policy is identical whether you take the TEAS 7 at a PSI test centre, at a nursing school, or via ATI's remote-proctored option. Remote-proctored test-takers may not have any other calculator visible — even an unplugged handheld in frame can fail the proctor check.
